Robert Doisneau
Humanist Aesthetics and the Visual Poetry of Everyday Paris

This is the text of the Complete Entry
Introduction
Robert Doisneau (1912-1994) stands as one of the fundamental pillars of French humanist photography, a movement that sought to restore dignity, hope, and lyricism to the human condition in the aftermath of World War II. Far removed from the cold and detached approach of hard-news photojournalism, Doisneau dedicated his entire existence to documenting the daily life of Paris and its banlieues (suburbs), transforming the street into a vast theatrical stage.
