Introduction

Developed in the early 2000s, this series relies on a meticulous and uncanny operation of appropriation and resignification: Melanie Pullen mined the historical archives of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the County Coroner's office, examining forensic photographs of real crime scenes, murders, and suicides dating back to the first half of the twentieth century.
