Introduction
The image captures Erin Blackwell, nicknamed "Tiny," a thirteen-year-old runaway who survived through petty crime and prostitution on the streets of Seattle. Originally originating as an assignment for LIFE magazine to investigate the rampant phenomenon of youth homelessness in the United States, the project evolved into a visual and human epic that redefined the boundaries of photojournalism.
