Introduction
Included in the broader and celebrated "Atelier Morandi" project, this still life is not simply an objective documentation of the spaces where the famous Bolognese painter Giorgio Morandi lived and worked, but configures itself as a profound act of intersemiotic translation between painting and photography. Through the lens of his camera, Luigi Ghirri crosses the threshold of a secular sanctuary, exploring Morandi's summer studio-home in Grizzana (in the Bolognese Apennines) and the one in Via Fondazza in Bologna.
