Introduction
The photographic work captured in 1992 by Letizia Battaglia, represents one of the most emblematic and heart-wrenching images in contemporary Italian visual history. The photograph portrays Rosaria Costa, the widow of police escort Vito Schifani, who was brutally murdered by the Mafia in the Capaci bombing on May 23, 1992, alongside Judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo, and fellow officers Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro.
