Introduction

Nurtured in the fertile and radical environment of 1960s Vienna, Heinz Cibulka successfully channeled the visceral fury of Viennese Actionism into a rigorous and profoundly poetic photographic syntax. The work "Aus Nachbars Garten" (From Neighbor's Garden), conceived in the 1990s and culminating in a seminal publication in 1998, perfectly embodies his stylistic hallmark: the Bildgedicht (Visual Poem).
