Count Giuseppe Napoleone Primoli, affectionately known as "Gégé", represents one of the most singular, fascinating, and pioneering figures in the history of European photography at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. An aristocrat of the highest lineage, a direct descendant of the Bonaparte family, Primoli was not simply a noble dilettante with a passing whim for the darkroom, but a true pioneer of modern reportage and "street photography" avant la lettre.
