Introduction
The work "Vitrine de coiffeur" (Hairdresser's Window), created in 1938, represents one of the very first and most significant color experiments by the photographer and visual sociologist Gisèle Freund. Universally recognized for her penetrating color portraits of the great literary intellectuals of the 20th century, in this shot, Freund turns her lens to the street, capturing a Parisian hairdresser's window display.
