Introduction
This shot does not merely immortalize the "Pope of Pop Art" in a rare pose of feverish manual activity, but transcends mere documentary recording to rise to the level of a complex philosophical and visual investigation. Gerald Bruneau, a photographer of Monegasque and French origins who experienced firsthand the internal dynamics of Warhol's inner circle, chooses to chemically and optically manipulate the image through a pronounced Sabattier effect, commonly known as solarization.
