Introduction

The photographic work titled "Papa Benedetto XVI, Montecassino," captured by Italian photographer Carlo Mari on May 24, 2009, does not merely document a historical event Joseph Ratzinger's pastoral visit to the famous Benedictine abbey on the 65th anniversary of its tragic bombing but elevates itself to a visual and philosophical manifesto of the Ratzingerian pontificate.
