Introduction

This shot is part of the broader and pioneering reportage that the author carried out in the People's Republic of China in 1959, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Maoist State. Caio Mario Garrubba was, in fact, the second Western photographer, preceded only by Henri Cartier-Bresson, to obtain a visa to cross the "Bamboo Curtain".
