Arlene Gottfried represents one of the most authentic, warm, and indispensable voices of American street photography in the second half of the 20th century. Often referred to as the "singing photographer" due to her genuine participation in the gospel choirs of the communities she documented, Gottfried traced an emotional and visual map of a New York that no longer exists.
