Introduction
The photographic work under examination, universally recognized as one of the most emblematic portraits of the twentieth century, depicts the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson and was captured by the renowned American photographer Annie Leibovitz in 1989. This shot was originally commissioned and conceptualized for the cover and internal editorial of the December issue of Vanity Fair magazine, an edition historically dedicated to the "Hall of Fame" of those who had defined the 1980s, aptly dubbed "The Media Decade."
