Introduction
Hans Georg Berger (born in 1951 in Trier, Germany) represents one of the most singular and intellectually rigorous figures in the panorama of international contemporary photography. Defining himself as a "learning photographer," Berger has subverted the traditional canons of Western reportage and documentary photography, replacing predatory visual appropriation with a praxis of ethical, collaborative, and horizontal immersion.
